ELMA Bustronic Expands Industry’s Largest VXS Backplane Line with 20-Slot Version

FREMONT, California, Oct 7, 2005 – Elma Bustronic Corporation, an industry leading designer and manufacturer of high performance backplanes has developed a new 20-slot Dual Star VXS backplane. This VME Switched Serial backplane features two hub slots and 18 payload slots for maximum performance.

Elma Bustronic’s 20-slot VXS backplane comes in an 18-layer controlled-impedance stripline design. The company used a low dielectric Nelco PCB material for improved signal performance. The material helps control impedance and minimize crosstalk.

Elma Bustronic’s VXS backplanes are compliant to the VITA 38 specification for System Management. The 7U height of the backplane allows room for plenty of power taps for 3.3V, 5V, +/- 12V, and GND. The backplane is also compliant to the VITA 1.7 Increased Current Specification.

The VXS Switched Serial standard is fully backwards-compatible to VME/VME64x. It utilizes a new 6.4 Gbps high-speed connector across the P0 section of a VME64x backplane, allowing the use of switched fabric signals for higher bandwidth and reliability. Designers will have the flexibility of plugging in standard VME64x cards for parallel bus only, integrate new payload and switch cards for parallel bus and switch fabric transport or switch fabric transport only.

The lead time is 4-6 weeks ARO. The company also offers VXS backplanes in a 5-slot Single Star, 5-slot Switchless Mesh, 8-slot Dual Star, and a 12-slot Dual Star configuration.
