Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real Time Middleware Company, today introduced RTI Real-Time Connect, a solution for integrating enterprise applications with real-time applications, data and devices. RTI Real-Time Connect overcomes the challenges traditionally associated with integrating enterprise and real-time systems in a number of ways: preventing high-throughput real-time applications from overwhelming slower enterprise infrastructures, delivering immediate real-time notification of enterprise events to real-time applications and bridging between disparate middleware and data management standards.
RTI Real-Time Connect uses RTI Data Distribution Service for its interface to real-time systems. This interface complies with the Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) standard version 1.2. RTI Data Distribution Service allows each application to stream up to 950 megabits of data or 80,000 messages per second with inter-node latencies as low as 65 microseconds, rates 10 to 25 times faster than can be sustained by most enterprise middleware and data management technologies. RTI Data Distribution Service provides C, C++ and Java interfaces, and it is available for a broad range of platforms including the specialized embedded and real-time operating systems (RTOSes) often used within edge devices and sensors.
RTI Real-Time Connect creates a Unified Global Data Space that enables enterprise applications and real-time devices to access the same information using multiple interfaces, leveraging the power of open standards and allowing seamless integration with legacy applications. Supported interfaces include JDBC/ODBC for relational-database (SQL) integration, Web Service Definition Language (WSDL) interfaces for SOA integration, as well as JMS, XML, DDS and various other enterprise solutions.
The solution provides turnkey bridging between DDS and Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSs). Developers can use Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) to easily specify custom integration with other interfaces.
RTI Real-Time Connect is fully bidirectional. Enterprise applications can access and post real-time messages and data at a sustainable rate or, alternatively, define simple BPEL processes to filter, transform, process and generate messages and data. Messages and data originating in enterprise applications are sent to real-time applications via DDS, enabling each real-time application to fine-tune its QoS and specify whether it wants to poll for updates or be notified as soon as they happen.
The first off-the-shelf solution for integrating enterprise and real-time applications, RTI Real-Time Connect delivers a substantial reduction in integration time, cost and complexity. In addition, because it is standards-based and general purpose, RTI Real-Time Connect offers better adaptability to future requirements than traditional, ad hoc proprietary solutions.
RTI Real-Time Connect also provides a migration path to higher-performance messaging for those applications currently using slower technologies such as JMS, SOAP or CORBA specifications. Those components of a system needing higher throughput or lower latency can migrate to DDS. RTI Real-Time Connect in conjunction with a BPEL infrastructure can provide interoperability with legacy components, minimizing the impact of introducing new technology.

Leveraging Oracle Software
To provide impedance matching between enterprise and real-time applications, RTI Real-Time Connect uses Oracle TimesTen In¬-Memory Database as a message and data buffer. Oracle TimesTen is a memory-optimized database delivering exceptionally high performance, enabling it to easily support the high throughput that can be generated by real-time applications and data sources. Oracle database can also be used as an integrated data repository with TimesTen as a front-end cache.
For integration with SOA, RTI Real-Time Connect can be used with Oracle BPEL Process Manager, which enables organizations to integrate with disparate applications and Web services into business processes.

RTI Real-Time Connect is available today for Windows, Linux and Solaris platforms. Licenses for RTI Real-Time Connect including the Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database begin at $15,000 USD per processor.
RTI Data Distribution Service is available today for Windows, Linux, Solaris, Wind River Systems VxWorks, LynuxWorks LynxOS and Green Hills Software INTEGRITY operating systems. Development packages begin at $84,600 USD, which includes a comprehensive architecture study, two days of customer-specific training, one week of follow-up consulting, and one year of maintenance and support.
