CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA July 23, 2008 GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms today announced that it has completed the porting of LynuxWorks™ LynxOS® release 5.0 to a number of the companys hardware products. This latest version of the operating system provides support for larger memory maps and symmetric multiprocessing, a key requirement for todays leading edge applications such as signal- and sensor processing.
“LynxOS release 5.0 provides new features and functionality that are much in demand for major military programs because of their increasing use of multiprocessing architectures to achieve the performance they require, and we believe we are well ahead of the industry in making it available,” said Andy West, Product Manager, SBC Software at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. “We have been working closely with LynuxWorks over the past several months prior to official availability of this new release in order to deliver our combined hardware/software offering that meets those requirements.”
Release 5.0 of LynxOS provides a number of key new capabilities, including support for the latest PowerPC™ multicore 8641 processor which is at the heart of GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms VXS DSP220 multiprocessor and DSP230 VPX multiprocessor. Porting has also been completed to the PPC7A, PPC7D and PPC8A single board computers, with further ports to other GE Fanuc hardware platforms in progress.
