Nallatech’s BenERA computing card can support multiple analog and digital I/O interfaces, memory types and up to nine user FPGAs on a single cPCI card. The BenERA is part of the processing power in Northrop Grumman’s FPGA-centric satellite platform. There are 150 FPGAs in the NGST system. The BenERA provides a powerful platform for high-performance systems development and deployment in production environments. |
Nallatech, the leader in high-performance FPGA computing solutions, today announced its collaboration for developing a test platform for space borne processing with Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Space Technology sector, a developer of systems at the leading edge of space, defense and electronics technology. Northrop Grumman Space Technology creates sophisticated products that contribute significantly to the nation’s security and leadership in science and technology. Work on the FPGA system development for Northrop Grumman aligns with Nallatech’s focus on the U.S. defense and aerospace markets.
As part of the $2.1 million contract, performed over a one-year period, Nallatech’s field application engineers and technical specialists supported Northrop Grumman Space Technology systems engineers in creating an FPGA platform that provided the ideal test-bed for their satellite applications. The system was built around multiple cPCI cards and chassis, with a custom I/O card providing a total of 16Gbps of bandwidth between units. The application uses Nallatech’s BenERA, BenDATA-II, BenDATA-WS, BenBLUE-II and BenPRO hardware products to provide specific amounts of processing through Xilinx FPGAs, as well as extensive memory capability. The architecture was designed to make the FPGA the main processing engine.
“Our collaboration with Northrop Grumman is another example of the ever-increasing demand for high-performance FPGA computing solutions in the U.S. defense market,” said Ed Hennessy, V.P. North American Operations, Nallatech. “It also demonstrates that the rapid development and iteration benefits of FPGA technologies are delivering significant advantage to the U.S. military and aerospace sectors.”
