Rittal’s new MPS monitoring modules ensure the highest possible level of functional security in microcomputer packaging systems. The absolute functional security of every hardware component is vital in order to warrant the highest system availability and performance for industrial computers. Rittal Electronic Systems’ new supervisory electronics for microcomputer packaging systems (MPS) represents a highly flexible, adjustable security concept for monitoring such important parameters as temperature, voltage and fan speed – as well as for supervising subracks and components. Intelligent functional modules such as controllers, as well as temperature, fan and LCD or LED display modules form the core of the system. Alarm levels can be set, and remote call up and remote parameterisation can be performed via the Internet. This is all made possible by its compatibility with the Rittal CMC-TC monitoring system. The parameters can also be called up from the MPS system directly via a PC or directly from a control room with the aid of CMC-TC. The latter is particularly necessary if no contact to on-site service staff is possible.

Inter-communication between the monitoring modules is made via a local I²C bus. The controller module is the master, evaluating all the incoming data from the other monitoring modules. The limits of the various functions may be parameterised flexibly so that the monitoring and alarm system can easily be adapted to the particular operating conditions. This ensures powerful and cost-effective MPS monitoring at the local level. The display modules are mounted in the front area of the system. Controller, temperature and fan modules can be fitted on a separate rail in the rear section. As a result, and in contrast to plug-in card versions, no slots are wasted. These modules are already being routinely mounted in all Rittal MPS standard systems.
