MENLO PARK, Calif. – January 30, 2006 – Mocana Corporation, a provider of complete open standards based security solutions that are easy to use, flexible, and high performance, announced today that the cryptographic module used in its Embedded Security Suite of products has received the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification from the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 140-2, called “Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules,” is a United States security standard used to certify cryptographic modules as a prerequisite for use by government agencies. It is also used by many private companies as the benchmark for selecting robust security solutions.

The certification was completed by a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited Cryptographic Modules Testing (CMT) laboratory, which performed validation testing of Mocana’s cryptographic modules. The certification requirements cover eleven areas related to the secure design and implementation of a cryptographic module, which are intended to protect against adversaries mounting cost-effective attacks on sensitive government or commercial data.

“Earning this important certification for our crypto module on the first attempt further confirms the quality and robustness of Mocana’s security solutions,” said Adrian Turner, President and CEO of Mocana. “With this certification, we are making it even easier for organizations to have assurance that they can quickly and easily meet the high level of government security requirements without having to be security experts themselves.”

Mocana provides complete open standards-based security solutions that are small footprint, easy to use, flexible and high performance. They are also architected with an asynchronous core to take full advantage of hardware acceleration if required. The FIPS certified Mocana Crypto Library is used as part of the Mocana Embedded Security Suite which includes Embedded IPsec/IKE, Embedded SSL Server, Embedded SSL Client, Embedded SSH Server, Embedded SSH Client and RADIUS Client. Mocana’s solutions are offered stand alone and bundled, all in source code format and are available for free full source code and documentation evaluation at www.mocana.com/evaluate.html . They integrate seamlessly with legacy systems and each other.

The Mocana Crypto Library and the Mocana Embedded Security Suite, are used today in mission critical settings by industry leading, publicly traded companies across a range of industries including VoIP, IP Video, Wi-Fi, Aerospace & Defense and many others. While Mocana’s cryptographic software module is now FIPS certified, customers retain the option to leverage existing hardware-based cryptographic solutions in conjunction with the Mocana Embedded Security Suite as well.
