NEWTON, MA – August 9, 2005 – Global Technology Conferences today announced that Peter Fry, director of the CCTV User Group, will deliver at GSPX, a case study of the CCTV coverage of London and how this system has contributed to the investigation of the terrorist incidents. Video evidence collected by thousands of CCTV cameras in London has helped the Metropolitan Police to investigate the attacks and identify suspects. The case study will examine the London Underground CCTV system and how upgrading to digital technology has enhanced the quality and value of the images. GSPx will take place October 24-27 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

“CCTV systems aim at reducing crime, protecting citizens and providing police with valid leads as in the case of identifying and tracking suspects in the London incidents,” said Dr. Amnon Aliphas, GSPx chair. “In this case study, Fry will demonstrate how CCTV has helped London police identify terrorists responsible for the attacks. Attendees will also learn how CCTV systems can be improved by standardizing video formats and upgrading from analog to digital recording systems.”

CCTV User Group members are working with the police to provide video footage and to monitor the areas affected by the recent bombings. The CCTV User Group develops standards for the operation of CCTV systems and develops and promotes best practices. Fry has been the group director since January 2000 and an active participant since the group’s formation in 1996.

“GSPx attendees will learn how CCTV, standards and digital technology all combine to enable high quality video evidence and surveillance,” said Aliphas.
