“Recent court decisions have reinforced the need for acquiring full knowledge of the complete pedigree of software projects and the proper handling of the licensing requirements particular to each software component in order to avoid copyright infringement and license violations of open source and 3rd party software modules,” said Dr. Mahshad Koohgoli, CEO of Protecode. “Advanced automated software governance and Intellectual Property (IP) management tools are becoming key business tools for CEOs and legal officers. These tools help reduce business risks, ensure IP compliance and protection and achieve higher revenues at lower costs with software intensive products and services.”

In addition to offering a pedigree map with the composition of a software project and providing the necessary information for proper software IP management, Protecode tools deliver a software bill of materials, a stepping stone towards safe and profitable management of the software capital accumulated by the organization.

“With an increasing complexity of the software development processes and the multitude of license variations within the use of open source software, IP and copyright issues are becoming significant and businesses may experience delays in projects, product sales cycles or business transactions from code IP contamination,” according to analyst, Laurie Wurster, Research Director for Gartner Inc.

Pedigree reports of public open source projects are available at www.protecode.com. Individuals interested in having their projects analyzed with higher priority are welcome to contact Protecode by submitting their requests to [email protected].
