PISCATAWAY, N.J., — September 21, 2007 – Thales and Power.org™ today announced that Thales will present a technical paper about an optimized FFT implementation on PowerPC at the Power Architecture™ Developer Conference, to be held in Austin, Texas, September 24 – 25, 2007. The selection process for this inaugural event focused on Power Architecture technology education was highly competitive, with submitted papers exceeding the number of available slots by almost 160%.

“Thales’s seminar enriches the technical curriculum offered at the Power Architecture Developer Conference, and we’re very pleased to have them on board,” said Jesse Stein, Power Architecture Developer Conference Chair. “We’ve assembled a first-rate program with more than 65 hours dedicated to Power Architecture technology designed to advance our industry and aid customers as they break down the barriers to innovation.”

The Power Architecture Developer Conference will bring together professionals from the design engineering community. The event’s technical program discloses new information on software development for the Power Architecture platform, multi-core solutions, virtualization, compute-intensive solutions, and digital media, as well as an embedded perspective.

Thales will present a session titled “Optimizing Radix-2 FFT Algorithm for PowerPC Architecture.” “The Radix-2 Fast Fourier Transform algorithm is optimized for maximum performance on the PowerPC architecture with Altivec™ technology. The FFT algorithm methodology takes full advantage of PowerPC parallelism, accelerating performance up to eight times over standard architectures” explained Robert Negre, CTO of Thales’ computer activities and Building Blocks Manager of the Thales Computer Center of Excellence.

This vendor-neutral event is designed to provide practical information for engineers, designers or engineering managers currently working with or planning to work with Power Architecture technology. On day one of the conference, thought-leaders from AMCC, Freescale Semiconductor and IBM will share their visions for Power Architecture technology and for the many markets it plays in. On day two, Jim Bell, a leading scientist for Mars exploration, will share how he reaches for the stars every day, and will send attendees home inspired to take their designs further. Additional information about the Power Architecture Developer Conference’s technical program may be found www.power.org/devcon/07/agenda/.

Power Architecture technology offers the broadest, most diverse market penetration of any microprocessor in the industry today. It is the digital heartbeat of all three, next-generation gaming console platforms and the electronic brains of the world’s highest performance supercomputers. Power Architecture technology is also the leading platform for enterprise servers, automotive systems (powertrain, advanced safety and telematics), wireless and wireline infrastructure, and enterprise routing and switching.
