Clinton Township, MI – June 10, 2005 – KUKA Controls, a leading developer of real-time operating system solutions for Windows XP, announced today the latest release of CeWin, a real-time extension for Windows XP. With CeWin Version 3.3, applications can take full advantage of the latest multiprocessor systems from Intel and AMD. Improved memory partitioning allows greater flexibility in allocating the protected Windows CE memory area. Support has been added for both Windows CE 5.0 and Windows XP Service Pack 2, while developers benefit from the latest Microsoft development environments and enhancements to the CeWin API. CeWin Version 3.3 is available now through the global distribution and support network of KUKA Controls.
CeWin enables the coexistence of two operating systems on one processor, in part, by dividing the PC memory so that Windows CE and Windows XP each execute in separated and protected memory areas. No modifications are made to either operating system allowing developers to take full advantage of previous experience and existing code while maintaining maximum flexibility. The CeWin 3.3 evaluation is available as a free download on KUKA Controls’ website at www.kuka-controls.com. It offers the complete functionality of the full version for a 30-day test period.
KUKA Controls’ real-time software extensions have applications in the aerospace, automation, defense, medical and test and measurement markets. The company is a Microsoft Gold Level Windows Embedded Partner (WEP). These long-term relationships provide smooth integration of the latest OS updates and assure customers of the necessary platform stability. KUKA Controls also certifies third-party hardware compatibility to simplify development of new real-time applications.
Technical Notes
The improved memory partition technique, implemented with CeWin 3.3, no longer requires the use of the MAXMEM parameter and allows configurable allocation of the RTOS memory within RAM. Utilization of the x86 MMU guarantees reliable separation of the memory areas and also ensures memory integrity and system stability. API enhancements include functions to enable date and time synchronization between Windows CE and Windows XP; assign Windows CE processing time to ensure minimum Windows XP execution. CeWin can now be started as a service, allowing your application to begin real-time processing without user logon.
Microsoft® Target Designer support allows developers to integrate CeWin into customer-specific Windows® XP Embedded images. With Windows® XP Embedded Service Pack 2, developers can incorporate the use of the “Hibernate once, resume many” feature in their CeWin applications. “Hard” system shutdowns are now possible at all times, guaranteeing the reinstatement of a factory-set state within an extremely short boot time, making CeWin appealing for applications requiring quick starts.
