Ballard Technology, Inc., introduced a new line of XMC and PMC avionics databus interface cards with industry-leading high channel counts and multi-protocol capability.
These new high-density cards, called the Mx5 Series, enable electronic systems to interface with military and commercial avionics databuses. Single-protocol models can have up to 8 dual redundant MIL-STD-1553 channels, up to 22 ARINC 429 channels, up to 4 ARINC 708 channels, or 4 ARINC 717 channels. Multi-protocol models combine two or more protocols on a single card. All models include avionics discretes, timers, IRIG synchronization/generation, and differential interfaces usable as discrete I/O.
“By combining high channel counts, multiple protocols, and numerous discrete I/O, the Mx5 gives end users, integrators and manufacturers the flexibility to meet all of their embedded system I/O needs with a single plug-in card,” said Bill Schuh, Ballard Technology Vice President of Sales. “This not only reduces cost, but also supports the current emphasis on reducing SWaP (size, weight, and power).”
Mx5 embedded interface cards incorporate many high performance features, including a large 64 MB data memory with error correction, and x4 lane PCI Express or PCI-X bus interfaces with bus mastering. They easily manage fully loaded databuses on all channels. All models have extensive built-in test features: Power-on BIT (PBIT), Continuous BIT (CBIT), and Initiated BIT (IBIT). Physical configurations include XMC and PMC, rear panel and front panel I/O, and conduction and convection cooling.
Typical applications for the Mx5 include rugged deployed systems, embedded test systems, high performance simulators, databus health monitoring, avionics upgrades and retrofits, and much more.
