At INCOSE 2007 – the 17th international symposium of the International Council on Systems Engineering to be held in San Diego, USA 24-28 June 2007 – ARTiSAN Software Tools will demonstrate its comprehensive support for OMG SysML in ARTiSAN Studio, its UML 2 and SysML-based real-time systems and software modeling tool suite. SysML is the internationally recognised, general purpose graphical modeling language for developing complex systems jointly specified by the Object Management Group (OMG) and International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). By reusing a subset of UML 2.1 and extending it to meet the explicit needs of system engineers, it represents the natural evolution of existing UML techniques into an internationally adopted standard.
Requirements modeling, one of the principal extensions introduced by SysML, is currently already supported in ARTiSAN Studio 6.1, an easy-to-use, out-of-the-box solution that also supports a range of safety-related process standards. ARTiSAN Studio 6.2, launched at Embedded World in February and due to start shipping soon, rounds out ARTiSAN’s comprehensive support for OMG SysML. Making use of its powerful Domain Specific Profiling capability, ARTiSAN Studio 6.2 incorporates a comprehensive SysML Profile that supports the four pillars of SysML – system requirements, behavior, structure and parametric relationships – and is aligned to the very latest OMG SysML specification, reflecting refinements made by the OMG Finalization Task Force. Importantly, the SysML implementation in ARTiSAN Studio 6.2 allows engineers to work with SysML elements and diagrams as new element types and not just as stereotyped UML types, resulting in faster recognition, better usability and ease-of-adoption without compromising compliance to the standard.
In addition to demonstrating ARTiSAN Studio’s support for the OMG SysML standard, ARTiSAN will also be delivering two papers as part of the INCOSE 2007 technical program. The papers include “The Human Computer Interface aspects of SysML and architectural frameworks” to be delivered as part of the modeling track and “Bridging the chasm – Tracing from architectural frameworks to SysML” that will be delivered as part of the SysML track. Furthermore, Matthew Hause, a Principal Consultant at ARTiSAN, will be participating in the “Requirements engineering for software vs. systems in general?” panel session as a panelist.
