DAYTON, OH – March 2, 2010 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged deployed systems for the aerospace and defense market, has introduced the new Vortex Compact Network Storage (CNS), a rugged conduction-cooled network attached storage (NAS) solution. The small Vortex CNS package is designed for mounting in an ARINC tray on deployed platforms and provides 512GB of solid state storage, with growth to 1TB in early 2010. The CNS is “protocol-flexible” and supports CIFS, NFS, HTTP, FTP and PXE protocols on up to four (4) 1Gb Ethernet connections, making it ideal for sharing critical data in and across network centric systems. This rugged NAS solution is designed for use in a broad range of both manned and unmanned ground, air, and sea vehicles.
“The Vortex CNS is designed to optimize the sharing of mission critical data in harsh-environments,” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems. “The Vortex CNS’s data encryption and data management capabilities, coupled with its exceptional size, weight and power characteristics, make it an ideal solution for rugged deployed storage applications.”
The Vortex CNS can be integrated with one or two Curtiss-Wright Controls VPX3-FSM Flash Storage Modules to provide an extremely rugged, high-performance secure solution for sharing critical data in rugged environments. The 3U VPX VPX3-FSM is a rugged high performance, high-capacity solid-state SATA storage card that includes a NIST certified 256-bit AES encryption capability to ensure the protection of sensitive data.
The Vortex CNS is the newest member of Curtiss-Wright Controls’ Vortex family of high-performance storage systems designed to support the severe environment of military applications that range from high-speed streaming recorders to network centric file servers.
Measuring 3.75” H x 4.88” W x 12.20” D and weighing less than 12 lbs., the Vortex CNS is a fully rugged package that easily fits into most demanding space requirements. In addition, the CNS packaging can be tailored to fit the application requirements to address cooling limitations as well as size, weight, and power (SWaP) considerations.
Vortex CNS Features:
· Four 1GbE ports
· 512 GB solid-state storage
· NIST certified AES-256 data encryption
· Power interruption protection
· ½ ATR, 3.75” H x 4.88” W x 12.20” D (95.25 x 123.95 x 309.88mm)
