Nolam Embedded Systems, manufacturer of Board Level Products & Systems for the Aerospace, Defence, Telecom, Medical and Industrial Markets, today announced its NES-VESTA, a stand-alone FMC Carrier Board, based on Altera Corporation’s Cyclone® III FPGA. The board is a low-cost, low-power, and robust carrier for I/O intensive control applications. It features a single FMC slot which is capable of supporting many I/O functions including Analogue, Digital, Serial, CANbus, MIL-STD1553 and ARINC-429.Standards.

The NES-VESTA provides both USB and RS232 Serial Port for control and debug connectivity, together with a flexible power interface designed to meet the demands and power budget of FMC specifications. The FMC carrier board meets the demands for a standard module and can be used on a wide range of existing form factors including, VME, CompactPCI, VXS, VPX, VPX-REDI, CompactPCI Express, AdvancedTCA, and AMC.

The FMC mezzanine module uses a smaller form factor compared with PMC or XMC modules resulting in a requirement of considerably less space, meaning more can be placed on a single carrier. The mezzanines which plug into the host card use the FPGA device for data processing, control and arbitration tasks.

“We are proud Nolam Embedded Systems selected Altera’s Cyclone III FPGA for its VITA 57 compliant boards. Cyclone III FPGAs feature an ideal mix of low power and small form factor technology, equipped to meet the correct performance level for intelligent carrier applications. Cyclone III FPGA’s extended temperature range means the carriers can also be used in the harshest environments,” said Karl-Heinz Gatterer, Military /aerospace marketing manager Europe for Altera Corporation.

The FPGA VITA57 Mezzanine concept brings to users the upgradeability approach for I/O without a complete hardware redesign said Benjamin Nakache Vice President Sales at Nolam Embedded Systems.

The NES-VESTA provides the perfect development platform for the VITA57 FMC standard. It complements the existing portfolio of FMC modules with different I/O functions, which are available from NOLAM Embedded Systems today.
