Innovative COTS Open System Architecture Delivers Unprecedented Affordability and Commonality in Compliance with the U.S. Army’s New VICTORY 1.0 Standard
AUSA WINTER 2012, WASHINGTON D.C. (BOOTH #2117) – February 22, 2012 – Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS) has announced that it will present the first public demonstration of its innovative, industry-leading modular intra-vehicular netcentric architecture for ground vehicle modernization at the 2012 AUSA Winter Symposium and Exposition. The “Poised for VICTORY” demonstration will highlight Curtiss-Wright’s new cost-effective, high TRL ground vehicle architecture based on COTS open-system building blocks. Poised for VICTORY will demonstrate state-of-the-art rugged COTS OpenVPX™ standard-based module and subsystem technology designed in compliance with the U.S. Army’s VICTORY 1.0 standard. The architecture optimally delivers the full power of a Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) to legacy and new vehicle platforms to provide unprecedented levels of commonality and affordability. This new ground vehicle architecture promises to deliver unmatched affordability and interoperability for demanding C4ISR applications.
“We are very excited to present the first public demonstration of our VICTORY 1.0 compliant modular architecture for ground vehicle modernization at AUSA 2012,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions. “Curtiss-Wright is committed to leading the embedded COTS industry in designing and developing a complete eco-system of COTS modules and subsystems based on the OpenVPX and VICTORY standards to deliver previously unattainable levels of affordability and interoperability.”
CWCDS’s Poised for VICTORY demonstration will feature SWAP-C (Space/Weight/Power/Cost) optimized turn-key COTS subsystems that provide data concentration bridging via a Gigabit Ethernet backbone to support critical host applications such as Condition Based Maintenance data management. Based on open standard Line Replaceable Modules (LRMs) to maximize interoperability, the new architecture highlights CWCDS’s broad range of rugged, high-performance OpenVPX modules and embedded subsystem technologies, including:
• A mixed backplane multi-purpose computing unit that enables legacy VME and new VPX (VITA 41/VITA 46) form factors to reside in the same chassis, ideal for a common approach to legacy fleet modernization.
• An application-ready COTS subsystem based on the OpenVPX (VITA 65) system interoperability standard that delivers a low SWAP-C solution for mission computing, networking and security with optimal modularity and flexibility to support a wide variety of applications.
• A secure network switch router ideal for secure firewall and encrypted communications in ground vehicles.
The Poised for VICTORY demonstration will also feature CWCDS’s Data Transfer System (DTS), a rugged, removable solid-state cartridge-based network attached data storage (NAS) solution with data encryption, as an example of a fundamental MOSA-based system building block.
