Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions Introduces New Family of Hybricon® OpenVPX™ Pass-Through Backplanes

Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions Introduces New Family of Hybricon® OpenVPX™ Pass-Through Backplanes

ASHBURN, VA – May 7, 2013 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls, has announced a family of Pass-Through backplanes, the newest addition to its industry-leading Hybricon® family of high performance OpenVPX™ backplanes. Hybricon Pass-Through backplanes speed the development of custom OpenVPX system designs by passing all of the high-speed serial fabric connections directly to RTM connectors. These 3U and 6U OpenVPX backplanes are designed for applications that require non-standard backplane interconnections. This approach can dramatically reduce development time and cost while mitigating design risk. It also provides the system designer with greater flexibility for development applications in which the final fabric connectivity needs are not yet fully defined. All Hybricon Pass-Through backplanes are compatible with RTMs or Meritec® VPX+® cable systems, enabling the system integrator to easily and quickly make application-specific connections via cabling in a development environment.

“Our Pass-Through backplanes can save OpenVPX system developers time and money, freeing them to continue their system definition without locking them into a specific custom backplane, providing a COTS alternative to custom OpenVPX backplanes for development activities,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions. “We are pleased to announce the 024-900-06-CEN1-01, the newest addition to our Hybricon OpenVPX backplane family, the industry’s highest performance 6.25 Gbaud backplanes.”

Hybricon™ OpenVPX™ Pass-Through Backplane Features:

• 024-901-06-01 3U:

– VPX REDI 1″ pitch (7 slots wide)

– no data plane, control plane, or expansion plane fabric connectivity

– all fabric signals pass through to RTM connectors for users

– Air- or conduction-cooled development chassis available

– D2D (“Develop-to-Deploy”) ATR chassis available

• 024-900-06-X1-01 6U:

About Hybricon OpenVPX Backplanes

Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions offers a wide range of Hybricon OpenVPX (VITA 65), VPX REDI (VITA 48), and VPX (VITA 46) backplanes. These backplanes include OpenVPX-compliant backplanes that are typically used in air cooled or conduction cooled development chassis such as tower, open frame, or rack mount styles. We also offer OpenVPX, VPX REDI and VPX backplanes for ATR and small form factor style chassis.

Our standard backplanes support a wide range of standard OpenVPX backplane profiles, including 6U backplane and 3U backplane profiles, as well as standard hybrid backplanes. OpenVPX backplane profiles include several Distributed Topology Profiles as well as several Central Topology Profiles in addition to 3U and 6U Pass-Through versions. All Distributed and Central Topology Profiles include a Data Plane; some profiles include a Control Plane; and some profiles include an Expansion Plane. Many of these backplanes support Gen2 signaling rates of up to 6.25 GBaud, and they are designed to the Signal Integrity requirements of the VITA 68 VPX Compliance Channel draft standard. Our OpenVPX backplanes are also available with VITA 67.x RF/Coax and VITA 66.x Fibre Optic Feed-Thru connections.
