Altamonte Springs, Florida, February 26, 2014 – Tech Source Inc., an independent supplier of high performance embedded video, graphics and high-end computing solutions, has today announced its new Condor 4000x graphics/video card. Tech Source is one of the first to implement AMD’s new Embedded RadeonTM E8860 graphics processing unit (GPU) into an XMC form factor.
With the AMD Radeon E8860 GPU at its core, the Condor 4000x XMC graphics card offers ground-breaking graphics performance, boasting 640 shader processors and delivering up to 768/48 GFLOPS of peak single/double precision floating point performance.
The Condor 4000x provides a robust and cost-effective solution for rugged embedded military and avionics general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) and multi-monitor applications that require very high-end graphics and computation. These include image analysis, radar, sonar, and video surveillance.
Selwyn L. Henriques, president and CEO of Tech Source Inc., commented, “The AMD Radeon E8860 GPU demonstrates phenomenal performance in all of our 3D drawing and GPGPU tests making it the ideal GPU choice for our military and avionics embedded applications. We worked closely with AMD and gained early access to the technology. This has enabled us to introduce this E8860-based card to the market in just 8 weeks to coincide with AMD’s launch at Embedded World 2014.”
“The AMD Embedded Radeon E8860 GPU delivers exceptional performance/watt for applications that require the highest level of visual and general purpose computing in the industry today,” said Kamal Khouri, director of embedded products, AMD. “We’re excited to collaborate with Tech Source to bring the Condor 4000x to market for military and aerospace applications.”
The Condor 4000x features multiple independent outputs on the front panel (DVI-I and DisplayPort++) and the rear PMC (combination of DVI and DisplayPort). The rear PMC pin-out is designed for VME or cPCI single board computers. It also features 2GB of GDDR5 memory and supports the latest versions of the APIs such as OpenGL 4.2, DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2 and DirectCompute 11 for GPGPU computing.
“As this new card is a backward-compatible product, it will help new and existing projects leverage the long product life cycles that we offer (up to 16 years) while providing a significant upgrade to their system performance,” added Selwyn L. Henriques. “Our tests indicate that the new card is 1.6 times faster than the Condor 3000x running with the Radeon E6760 processor.”
The Condor 4000x is available in air- and conduction-cooled formats and Tech Source states that variants with VGA, SDI, NTSC, HD-SDI, STANAG 3350, RS-343 or RS-170 will be available shortly as will video-capture solutions for this product.
Tech Source has been developing graphics solutions for air traffic control, military and embedded applications for over 27 years. The ISO9001:2008 certified company offers a range of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products, including graphics processors – targeting general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) applications, input solutions, video compression and streaming boards, imaging cards, recording solutions and software libraries. Key markets include airborne, shipboard, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and ground based systems.
