Austin, TX – 4DSP today announced the release of the new VP788 and VP796 FPGA Mezzanine Cards, two 3U VPX form factor modules with advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) capabilities. The VP788 and VP796 are high-performance, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) cards designed for a variety of applications, including beamforming, RADAR, satellite communications, and Software Defined Radio.
Built around the Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA, the VP788 features eight 16-bit A/D channels running up to 250Msps each, while the VP796 features sixteen 14-bit A/D channels running up to 125Msps each. These designs provide the largest channel count in this frequency range and the most available onboard memory for real-time buffering of large data vectors. With the option to be conduction-cooled, both cards feature 10GBytes of onboard DDR3 SDRAM that is tightly-coupled to the FPGA. The cards also have the ability to synchronize analog signal sampling, making them excellent choices for large channel count data acquisition and beamforming applications.
“4DSP’s enhanced VPX/OpenVPX™ ecosystem with backplanes, high-performance FPGA carriers, the largest selection of FMC/XMC mezzanine cards, plus IP and firmware development tools offers an integrated systems approach for the development and fielding of complex military and industrial applications,” said Mike Pochkowski, Director of Marketing and Business Development at 4DSP in Austin. “The coupling of VPX and FMC cards offers cost effectiveness, code reuse, performance and reduced time to market advantages,” he added.
“Two of VITA’s most popular specifications, VPX and FMC, have become powerful and complimentary enablers for developing rugged embedded computing platforms,” said Jerry Gipper, executive director for VITA. “Both specifications were developed with high performance and rugged systems in mind and both have large and growing ecosystems of product suppliers that are delivering impressive products to application developers.”
The VP788 and VP796 are both designed for applications including software define radios (SDRs), RADAR/SONAR imaging, satellite communication systems, event processing, RADAR/radio jamming, JPEG2000 video image processing, baseband communication transceivers, multichannel digital receivers, FFT processing, and analog/digital signal processing can benefit from the performance of the Virtex-7 and the I/O flexibility of the VITA 46 compliant FMC site.
