Beaverton, Oregon – September 26, 2006 – TenAsys Corporation (www.tenasys.com) is pleased to announce that their new real-time hypervisor software supports the Intel® Core™ Duo processor E6400 and Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T7400, the latest Intel® Core microarchitecture processors to be added to the Intel embedded roadmap. TenAsys’ real-time hypervisor leverages the Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) component of these processors, making it possible for embedded system developers to increase real-time application responsiveness and reliability on a dual-OS, single-platform system. Dual-OS systems (e.g., Windows and an RTOS) deployed on dual-core hardware platforms decrease overall hardware costs, minimize footprint, and improve communication between the two operating systems.
Using Intel VT, TenAsys’ real-time Hypervisor maintains precise control over interrupt latency by dedicating real-time tasks to run on one processor core while general purpose operating system (GPOS) applications run on other processor core(s). In this configuration, inter-OS context switch times are eliminated, reducing real-time interrupt jitter to as little as 1-3 microseconds – 10 times less than that measured on an equivalent speed single-core processor. As a result, measurement and control algorithms of greater complexity can be deployed, resulting in increased quality and performance in embedded applications implemented on the new Intel CPUs.
“With their long-life support, high performance, and low power consumption, the new Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors are squarely aimed at serving the needs of the embedded computing market,” said Kim Hartman, TenAsys VP of Marketing and Sales. “We are pleased to support these processors with software that leverages the chips’ real-time virtualization support on day one of their availability.”
“TenAsys is finding new and interesting ways to apply Intel Virtualization Technology to solve the needs of embedded applications,” said Doug Davis, vice president and general manager, Communications Infrastructure Group at Intel. “Together, we are making higher levels of affordable performance available to embedded application developers.”
Tenasys plans to demonstrate its Intel virtualization support at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston (Sept. 25-28, 2006, in the Intel booth # 801).
About TenAsys
Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, TenAsys delivers real-time technology, tools, and services based on the embedded computer industry’s most popular processors and operating systems. TenAsys’ technology has enabled the virtualization of operating environments since 1990 with DOS-RMX, which at the time was marketed directly by Intel for use on Intel’s processors. The company’s INtime® software, first announced in 1997, has become a leading RTOS used in Microsoft® Windows®-based systems.
In 2006, Microsoft recognized TenAsys as its Windows Embedded Partner of the Year, ISV category, for the third year in a row. Cited for its efforts as an independent software vendor in enhancing the performance of Microsoft’s Windows operating system for mission-critical, real-time applications; TenAsys is the only software company to receive this award three years in a row. TenAsys’ INtime software was also the first RTOS to be fully-integrated within the Microsoft Visual Studio® development environment.
As an Intel® Communications Alliance Affiliate member, TenAsys is part of a network of over 300 member companies providing products and solutions that help embedded system designers speed development cycles, cut costs and solve design problems.
