OTTAWA, ONTARIO –January 6, 2010 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX™, VXS, and CompactPCI products for the rugged embedded and rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) markets, has introduced the new 3U VPX VPX3-216 ExpressReach™ carrier card to speed and ease the integration of XMC mezzanine cards (VITA 42.4) into embedded systems designed to be complaint with the OpenVPX™ (VITA 65) standard.
“The VPX3-216 ExpressReach switchless carrier further expands our unmatched portfolio of VPX solutions,” said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “The VPX3-216 provides a simple solution for system designs that require additional mezzanine modules.”
The switchless VPX3-216 ExpressReach carrier card is the latest member of Curtiss-Wright Controls’ expanding line of OpenVPX™ Ready 3U and 6U VPX embedded ruggedized products. Curtiss-Wright Controls’ OpenVPX™ Ready products have been designed to meet the new V1.0 OpenVPX and VITA 65 (Draft) Specifications. The VPX3-216 ExpressReach provides a single XMC expansion site mapped directly to the backplane PCIe fabric, with no PCIe switches in between the card and the backplane that would require configuration and add latency. The card provides 64-bits of XMC I/O mapped as 20 differential pairs along with 38 single-ended signals mapped per VITA 46.9. It has been designed to operate with Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing or third-party XMC modules. This fully ruggedized carrier card expands the I/O capability of its host single board computer (SBC) without requiring the use of additional SBCs.
The 3U VPX3-216 ExpressReach’s small form factor enables system developers to take advantage of COTS solutions for a new range of space, weight and power (SWaP)-constrained applications that cannot accommodate the 6U standard. The card features a low power footprint that, other than its IPMI controller and power controller, has no other active components.
