VITA, June 20, 2018 — VITA, the trade association for standard computing architectures serving critical and intelligent embedded computing systems markets, announces the ratification by ANSI and VITA of ANSI/VITA 17.3-2018 “Serial Front Panel Data Port (sFPDP) Gen 3.0” standard. This standard has completed the VITA and ANSI processes reaching full recognition under guidance of VITA.
ANSI/VITA 17.3-2018 describes an open standard for the third generation “Serial FPDP”, a high-speed low-latency serial communications protocol for use in high-speed data transfer applications. As the name implies, it is directly related to the ANSI/VITA 17.0 Front Panel Data Port standard, deriving its serial protocol from the defined protocol and control signals of FPDP. The ANSI/VITA 17.3 standard moves away from the concept of defined link rates and instead allows any link rate to be used. The standard also supports multi-lane channel bonding and advanced 64B/67B encoding to greatly increase the bandwidth capabilities of the link.
“The industry has been asking for a next-generation Serial FPDP, and the working group was able to design and validate a new standard to satisfy all of the requirements and add some exciting new features”, stated Greg Schueller, VITA 17.3 working group chair and Director of Business Development at StreamDSP LLC. “We anticipate that Serial FPDP Gen 3 will allow Serial FPDP to continue filling the needs of high-bandwidth, low-latency remote sensor data connections and flexible system interconnect solutions that are easily scalable.”
Copies of the standard are available for purchase at the VITA Online Shop (shop.vita.com/).
