CARERI is a research institute located in Shanghai, specialized in avionics, and belonging to Group I of Aviation Industry of China. CARERI has large and advanced facilities dedicated to research and development as well as industrial production. Its 25 departments cover many activities in several sites, such as EMC supervision and test center for aviation industry in eastern China, Shanghai software test & evaluation center for AVIC (China Aviation Industry
Corporation), electronics component test center for AVIC and reliability and environment testing laboratory. Support and quality assurance for mass serial production are provided by advanced-equipped SMT production line, accurate digital controlled processing equipment and debug center.
The contract consists of providing specification and implementation of an IMA platform management toolset. The concept of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) was invented in the early ’90s to overcome the vast number of single electronic devices in the avionics. The goal therefore is to decrease the number of computers in an aircraft, but as the required software complexity is heavily increasing at the same time, new techniques must be developed to manage a safe execution of multiple software applications on the same hardware platform.
The IMA platform targeted in the contract with CARERI is a set of configurable resources that, only after proper configuration, can support hosted aircraft systems applications. In order to be able to perform this task, the IMA toolset is necessary to support these activities.
“For more than a decade SYSGO has been involved with avionics projects requiring the highest levels of safety and has developed innovative technologies to address technical challenges like IMA,” said Michael Tiedemann, CEO of SYSGO. “We are extremely proud that our expertise, already recognized by major avionics players in North America, Europe, Brazil and Russia, is now considered by the Chinese industry.”
SYSGO has developed expertise on certification for security- and safety-critical applications both in terms of products and in terms of services. SYSGO built experience in IMA through its ARINC-653 compliant product PikeOS but has also participated to the definition of the next generation of IMA through R&D projects involving major avionics players. SYSGO has also proven its ability to design and implement software development tools since 1999 with its first COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) product.
The work related to the contract will start in December 2011 and will end in Q1 2013.
