DAYTON, OH – June 13, 2011 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems (CWCES), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged deployed subsystems for the aerospace, defense and commercial market, has introduced its newest rugged solid state drive, the 3U VPX Flash Storage Module (VPX3-1TB). This new high performance, rugged, high-capacity, solid-state SATA storage card was designed for space, weight and power (SWaP) constrained military applications. The compact module delivers 1 Terabyte of SLC NAND flash memory and can be configured as a JBOD or RAID. To ensure the security of critical data, the VPX3-1TB FSM provides an NIST-certified 256-bit AES data encryption capability.

“Our customers increasingly require high densities of fast, secure memory that performs optimally in harsh military environments,” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems group. “The VPX3-1TB FSM raises the bar for open standard solid state memory performance with a Terabyte of flash memory deployed on a 3U VPX, VITA 46 or VITA 48.2 REDI, high bandwidth slot card.”

The VPX3-1TB FSM’s 1TB of SLC NAND flash memory is organized in four banks of 256 GB each in a 1”pitch 3U VPX module available in a VITA 46 and VITA 48.2 REDI variants. The card’s four banks of flash can be configured to appear to the host processor as four (4) separate SATA drives or as a single SATA drive with hardware RAID0 support. To ensure long-life and optimal performance, the card features industry standard wear leveling and bad block management.

This conduction-cooled module is available in the full range of military ruggedization configurations, including Levels 100 and 200.

VPX3-1TB FSM Performance Features:

· 1 TB physical storage capacity

· 28% over-provisioning to enhance storage endurance

· VPX single RAID0 or quad JBOD SATA ports

· 160 MB/s RAID0 performance or 100 MB/s per port JBOD performance

· Industry standard wear leveling and bad block handling
