IDM680: A Technosoft Intelligent Drive with High-speed EtherCAT Communication

IDM680 is a new Technosoft intelligent servo drive equipped with EtherCAT communication interface. The drive combines the Technosoft solutions’ versatility with the Ethernet speed for a centralized control of multi-axis systems. The EtherCAT synchronization capabilities and full bandwidth are very attractive in motion applications where synchronizing a large number of drives is required. It saves installation costs by eliminating both Ethernet start topology and all switches routers and hubs.

Besides EtherCAT, this high-performance servo drive embeds motion controller, drive and PLC functionality into a single compact unit. IDM680 can operate either as a standard EtherCAT slave using a CANopen over EtherCAT (CoE) protocol, or it can be programmed to execute complex motion programs directly at drive level, using the built-in motion controller and the EasyMotion Studio platform. EasyMotion Studio automatically generates all the TML instructions, so you don’t need to learn or write any TML code. Using TML programming, you can reduce the development time of complex applications by distributing the intelligence between master and drive: you can call complex motion functions, pre-stored in the drive memory, or trigger their execution via I/O signals.

IDM680 is suitable for the operation of brushless, DC or linear motors up to 640 W continuous / 1.3 kW peak voltages. Adding EtherCAT compatibility to the IDM680 drive provides a potent combination of speed and various operating modes, including: position or speed profiles (trapezoidal, S-curve); 3rd order PVT and 1st order PT interpolation; electronic gearing and camming; analogue or digital external reference; open / closed loop and microstepping (up to 256 μsteps/step) for step motors.

This drive is equipped with various sensors: digital and linear Halls, SSI, EnDAT, BiSS, sine/cosine incremental encoders and resolver. PC / PLC motion libraries are available for the drive’s quick industrial integration.

IDM680 with EtherCAT is ideally suited to motion control applications that require high data transfer rates, short data processing times and high synchronicity with low jitter, such as plant or building automation industries.
