BEAVERTON, Ore., March 23, 2009 – Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced new optical sampling oscilloscope modules for the Tektronix DSA8200 Digital Serial Analyzer Series that promise to lower the cost of high-performance optical transmitter development and standards compliance. The 80C10B and 80C10B with Option F1 (80C10B F1) provide the industry’s most complete testing solution for compliance verification of next generation transmitter standards from 40 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s and beyond. The company also announced the 80C25GBE module for 100 Gb/s Ethernet (100GbE) manufacturing and compliance verification.
Driven by such demands as high-definition on-demand Internet Protocol television (IPTV), cloud computing and online gaming, the telecommunications and data communications industries are rapidly migrating to faster data rates with the emergence of 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s Ethernet communications protocols. To realize this next migration up in performance, component, module and systems manufacturers need highly accurate and versatile test solutions that support all key optical and electrical standards.
The 80C10B module provides 80+ GHz optical bandwidth and signal fidelity for detailed characterization of 40 Gb/s and beyond. With the Option F1, users gain patented filtering technology for specific industry standards – making the 80C10B F1 a single module test solution for all major optical standards including; OC-768/STM256, VSR2000 (ITU-T G.693), 40GBase-LR (future serial), OTU3, 4X10G LAN PHY, 100GBase-LR4, 100GBase-ER4, 100GBase-LR4 + FEC, and 100GBase-ER4 + FEC. The 80C10B and 80C10B F1 modules represent the most cost- effective solution for design and compliance verification of new and emerging high speed optical data communications, and telecommunications standards from 40 Gb/s to 100Gb/s (4X25G) — all in a single module.
“This is an exciting time in the optical communications industry as the next generation of optical data rates make their way into next generation product designs,” said Brian Reich, vice president, Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. “With the new 80C10B F1 and 80C25GBE optical modules, we are giving engineers the advantages of reduced time per test, accurate and repeatable measurements and the most cost-effective and versatile solutions on the market.”
Validation and Compliance Test for 40GbE and 100GbE
The 80C10B offers the highest optical bandwidth available on the market in combination with optical reference receivers (ORR) for 39.813 Gb/s OC-768/STM256, 41.25G 40GBase-LR, 43.018 Gb/s G.709 FEC (OTU3), and 4X10G LAN PHY standards. In addition, the solution offers the industry’s only guaranteed ITU and IEEE compliant filters in this performance arena.
The 80C25GBE is focused on supporting manufacturing of 100GBase-LR4, 100GBase-LR4 + FEC, 100GBase-ER4, and 100GBase-ER4 + FEC where speed and accuracy are fundamental to cost-effective compliance testing. In addition, the 80C25GBE provides 65GHz optical bandwidth for accurate unfiltered signal characterization. Both the 80C10B and 80C25GBE deliver up to 4X acquisition throughput as compared to alternatives.
Industry leading sensitivity, noise performance, impulse response, group delay, and return loss provide the best signal fidelity to assure accurate and repeatable characterization of SONET/SDH and high-speed designs of 40 to 100 Gb/s and beyond.
The Tektronix DSA8200 when combined with the 80C08C and 80C10B F1 modules represents a versatile solution for existing optical ITU-T, IEEE and ANSI FibreChannel standards at 10G, 40G and 100G. Tektronix now provides all reference receiver filters for physical layer compliance testing of every major optical data rate from 8.5 Gb/s through 44.5 Gb/s, including 40GBase-SR4, 40GBase-LR4 and 100GBase-SR10, simultaneously in a single test system.
Pricing and Availability
U.S. list price for the 80C10B optical sampling oscilloscope module starts at $71,700 MSRP. The 80C25GBE starts at $60,900 U.S. MSRP. All new models are available for order beginning March 24, 2009.
