LEESBURG, VA – May 16, 2005 Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has announced its plans for a new comprehensive product line-wide architecture called COTS ContinuumT. COTS Continuum represents a major Curtiss-Wright R&D investment undertaken with the goal of empowering customers and solution providers to leverage new computing technologies without the cost and risk associated with adopting new software and hardware interfaces.
“Curtiss-Wright is taking the lead in delivering the interoperability and consistent user experience that system integrators need to design and deploy reliable systems that deliver all the advantages of open-system, COTS technology,” said Tom Quinly, president of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “Even better, we’re taking the lead in bringing the next generation switched serial fabric architectures, VITA 46 and VITA 41 to the market with the legacy hardware and software compatibility that customers need to protect their existing investments in system development.”
The COTS Continuum architecture will provide the following benefits:

The Industry’s First VITA 46 Board!
Curtiss-Wright’s first product based on the COTS Continuum architecture willbe the SVMX/DVMX-185, a single board computer based on the new VITA 46 switched serial fabric standard: the industry’s first VITA 46 product. Curtiss-Wright’s comprehensive VITA 46 initiative includes plans to market VITA 46 boards in 3U and 6U form factors with feature sets derived from across all of the company’s areas of design and technology expertise, including single board computers and advanced, high-performance PowerPC multi-computing platforms as well as a wide range of I/O solutions.

The VITA 46 initiative also includes support for new advanced mezzanine module I/O solutions such as the VITA 42 XMC standard. Curtiss-Wright’s VITA46 compute engines will employ VITA 42 XMC modules to simplify system integrators’ access to PCI Express base card fabric connectivity. The new mezzanine modules will also provide standardized high-speed backplane I/O connectivity for demanding applications such as multi-Gigabit Fibre Channel, DVI digital graphics and video, Serial FPDP as well as custom I/O requirements.
Preserving customer investment in legacy hardware and software development, Curtiss-Wright’s VITA 46 SBC’s will provide VME electrical connectivity to enable heterogeneous backplane interconnection with existing VME modules. This will enable integrators to design systems that combine both legacy VME64x cards and the new VITA 46 boards in a single enclosure.Curtiss-Wright also announced that it will provide new chassis designs, as well as fully integrated subsystems, needed to deploy the advanced functionality made possible with the new VITA 46-based products.
Following their first VITA-46 product offering, the SVMX/DVMX-185 SBC, Curtiss-Wright plans to release additional VITA 46-based boards, including the CHAMP-AV 6 signal processing engine and the CHAMP-FX II FPGA-based reconfigurable compute engine. Curtiss-Wright Broadens Offering, Adds First VITA 41 Board to Product Line
In addition to the COTS Continuum products built on the new VITA 46 standard, Curtiss-Wright also announced plans to support the VITA 41 standard. Curtiss-Wright’s first VITA 41-based products will be the CHAMP-FXV41, a dual FPGA-based digital signal processing (DSP) engine.
With the addition of VITA 46 and VITA 41-based boards to its current broad range of VME64x and CompactPCI products supported by its new unifying product architecture, Curtiss-Wright enhances its position as the industry’s premier source for the full range of VME-lineage based modules.
