Vancouver, BC – July 21, 2011 – Tri-M Technologies Inc. introduces their newest backup power module capable of operating in remote environments and extreme temperatures while providing up to 500,000 power cycles.

The Tri-M CBP line of backup power solutions makes use of innovative technology to give systems designers a long life, worry free solution for embedded computing systems that require short to moderate periods of backup power. Many applications requiring such a robust power solution are found in remote locations where access to the system is expensive or challenging, such as undersea or isolated geographies.

“Our CBP Modules use Ultra-Capacitors rather than conventional alkaline or nickel metal hydride batteries to give embedded systems the ability to operate in extreme temperatures while providing maintenance free operation”, said Ed Foster, Tri-M’s Vice President of Research and Development. “These properties allow them to be used in remote environments where maintenance is cost prohibitive. When paired with Tri-M smart charging power solutions, the CBP modules will provide proven, battery free, long term uninterruptible power for embedded applications.”

The CBP Modules use electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC) or ultra-capacitors rather than conventional batteries. Ultra-capacitors have a high power density compared to conventional electrolytic capacitors so they can charge very quickly and are able to be recharged thousands of times. This is beneficial for applications that have either a large number of battery discharge cycles or where a “maintenance free” solution is required such as remote terminals or mobile data collectors.

“Our customers demand products that will be reliable in all kinds of environments”, said John Diack, President and CEO of Tri-M Technologies Inc. “The CBP Modules allow us to provide a complete uninterruptable power solution for the extreme environments our customers’ systems so often find themselves in.”

The CBP Modules are offered in Farad capacities of 10, 25, 58, 250, and 500 providing estimated backup power run-times of 45 seconds to 45 minutes based on a twenty watt load.
