Fountain Hills, AZ, March 1, 2005 — OpenSystems Publishing (OSP), LLC, the leader in segment-specific technical publications serving the embedded systems community, announced today that Chris A. Ciufo, one of the industry’s best known and most highly regarded journalists and a veteran marketer, has joined the company as Group Editorial Director and Director of Business Development.
In his new role as Group Editorial Director Mr. Ciufo will oversee several of the industry’s best known publications and Resource Guides including, VMEbus Systems, PC/104 Embedded Solutions, and the DSP-FPGA Resource Guide. In his new post, Mr. Ciufo will have strategic editorial direction and day-to-day responsibility for these popular titles, as well as for new publications and editorial vehicles to be developed. Working closely with OSP’s successful editorial team, Mr. Ciufo will apply his unmatched technical, market and business expertise to the properties under his direction.
As Director of Business Development Mr. Ciufo will work closely with OSP’s senior management to bring trend-setting creative media ideas to OSP’s readers and advertisers. Mr. Ciufo is expected to participate in the development of new vertical market strategies for both traditional print and Internet-based editorial and promotional vehicles.

Starting originally as Senior Editor, Mr. Ciufo brings over four years of experience as Editor-in-Chief of COTS Journal magazine, where he became widely recognized as one of the early proponents and commentators on the military’s use of commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) technology. Prior to leading COTS Journal, Mr. Ciufo held key management positions at industry-leading embedded systems companies including Dy4 Systems and VISTA Controls Corporation, where Mr. Ciufo helped spearhead the industry’s use of uprated COTS components when IC vendors abandoned MIL-SPEC devices. Mr. Ciufo’s technical career spans 21 years, having also held management positions in the semiconductor industry with Advanced Micro Devices and Sharp Microelectronics Technology.
As a sought-after speaker at industry events and conferences, Mr. Ciufo will increase OSP’s presence and participation in a wide variety of civilian and military organizations, including the PC/104 Consortium, VITA, NASA’s ATWG, and GIDEP’s DMS/MS Teaming Group.
The addition of Mr. Ciufo to the OSP management team is reflective of the company’s strategy to become the dominant publisher in the embedded industry. Mr. Ciufo comprises the second high profile new-hire event for OSP this month. OpenSystems recently announced the addition of Jerry Gipper and Don Dingee to its editorial team.
