DAYTON, OH – March 2, 2010 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged deployed systems for the aerospace and defense market, has introduced the new conduction-cooled Vortex VR-7310 3U VPX/VPX-REDI/OpenVPX™ (VITA 46/48/65) data recorder. This small form factor data recorder board enables system designers to quickly and easily integrate high-volume, continuous (streaming) data recording in a small compact package. The VR-7310 is designed for use in a broad range of space, weight and power (SWaP)-constrained critical applications in both manned and unmanned ground, air, and sea vehicles, including signal intelligence, image processing, FLIR radar, sonar, RF tuners, MRI and cameras.
“Today’s advanced sensor systems require the capability to record and retrieve high-speed sensor data in a wide range of harsh environments,” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems. “The VR-7310 delivers the high bandwidth and system operability of the VPX and OpenVPX standards, coupled with the size, weight and power advantages of the 3U form factor, to provide an ideal recording system for rugged deployed data management and storage applications.”
The VR-7310 data recorder provides a quick and cost effective way to store and retrieve captured data from a variety of sensor interfaces without interruption. The VR-7310 supports storage includes eight (8) external 6 Gbps SAS/SATA links that enable direct attachment to eight (8) 1.8” or 2.5” drives deployed on disk carrier cards or VPX3-FSM Flash Storage Devices. This high performance 3U VPX recording engine features an on-board XMC/ expansion site, supporting a wide variety of I/O such as Serial Front Panel Data Port (sFPDP), Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 10GbE and analog I/O, as well as FPGA processing. The board’s AMCC 460SX CPU is supported with 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM memory for recording buffers.
Vortex Software
Curtiss-Wright Controls supports the Vortex data recorder family with software that enables users to easily manipulate or analyze data while it is recorded or during playback. The Vortex software provides full access to a well-defined and fully documented interface to the data before it is written to or read from disk. Curtiss-Wright Controls also provides the XML-RPC API which enables the customer’s application to control system operations including the number of channels to acquire, disk grouping, playback from offsets in the recording, disk group management. For custom applications, the Vortex software provides users with an easy to use API for creating high-speed recording systems with a wide range of I/O options. Application Programming services are available upon request.
The Vortex Family of Storage Solutions
The VR-7310 is the newest member of Curtiss-Wright Controls’ Vortex family of high-performance data recorder and rugged storage systems designed to support the severe environment of military applications that range from high-speed streaming recorders to network centric file servers.
The Vortex family supports applications including instrumentation recording, mission recording, SIGINT/ELINT recording and storage for both rugged and lab environments.
