Las Vegas, NV – Channel One International, an electronics distribution firm in the business of long term support for complex integrated circuits to military and avionics system manufacturers, has now made available a comprehensive book addressing obsolescence management issues. This textbook provides system engineering and manufacturing firms with the strategy and planning process necessary to support their products for 20 or more years.

The Defense Standardization Program Office publication “Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) SD-22” sets the objectives for proactively managing obsolescence. Channel One created ESOM SF-2.0 as a direct response to these challenges, providing a defined framework for integrating obsolescence management into the heart of each system manufacturing program.

“Military and aerospace manufacturers face difficult challenges when tasked to support complex products for very long production lifetimes” said Damian Fozard, founder of Channel One and coauthor of ESOM SF-2.0. “Where consumer companies can count on their product being out of production before their underlying technology becomes obsolete, our high reliability customers must plan the obsolescence of critical components into their business model. Channel One has developed a framework that provides the detail necessary to implement a strategic obsolescence planning process for use by program management, procurement, engineering and industry executives.”

“Working with Channel One, ALT Software provides turnkey safety critical hardware and software solutions for the embedded graphics marketplace,” said Darryl Parisien, President of ALT Software. “An important element of our new E4690 avionics graphics solution is the ability of Channel One to plan and manage the support of the underlying electronics hardware long after obsolescence.”

Electronic System Obsolescence Management (ESOM) SF-2.0 subject areas include:

• Redesign vs. Life of Type (LOT) buy

• Department of Defense oversight of DMSMS

• Reactive vs. proactive obsolescence management

• Obsolescence as a total ownership cost element
