Raleigh, NC and Toulon, France – Thales’ Computers activities, a global leader in providing integrated PowerPC and Pentium-based VMEbus COTS computing systems and solutions to OEMs and system integrators, continues its dedication to providing customers with leading-edge products as it announces several upgrades to its PENTXM Single-Board Computer (SBC) offering.

Now available is the rugged version of the PENTXM low-power Pentium M SBC operating at 1.2 GHz (-40° to +85° C). It uses a 1.6 GHz processor de-rated to 1.2 GHz in order to guaranty that the board’s efficiency is consistent over the temperature range.

Also, the commercial (SA) version of the PENTXM is now available with a 1.8 GHz build option in addition to the original 1.6 GHz processor speed option. The onboard BIOS allows the user to either fix the clock rate of the processor to a defined value or let the processor determine its frequency according to the die temperature.

Alain Albarello, President of Thales’ Computers Activities, stated, “We continue our success with the Pentium M family of processor boards by implementing what our customers need in the way of high-performance, low-power dissipation products.”

The PENTXM is a PC-compatible VMEbus processor board utilizing the 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium M processor or the 1.8 GHz Pentium M 745 processor. The single-slot solution features 2 PMC sites, 1 GB of soldered SDRAM and a variety of interfaces including an option for an onboard hard disk drive, CompactFlash or IBM/Hitachi MicroDrive.

Both processors have a 400 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) as well as 64 KB of primary cache. The 1.6 GHz processor has 1 MB of secondary cache, while the 1.8 GHz has 2 MB. Utilizing the low-power 64-bit 855GME host bridge, the Pentium M supports a 400 MHz front side bus frequency.

The graphics interface is accessed via a 26-pin high-density front-panel connector or at the rear. The PENTXM provides resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 @ 75 Hz and up to 16M colors.

The PENTXM has dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports and supports embedded Linux, VxWorks, Windows 2000/XP and Embedded XP operating systems.

The PENTXM is suitable for a wide range of demanding embedded applications, such as those in the industrial control, telecommunications, telemetry, aerospace and scientific industries. Industry standard operating systems are supported to simplify integration.

The starting price for the PENTXM family of products is $4,188 for a single quantity.
