Proximion Fiber Systems AB Launches New Continuous Band Dispersion Compensator

Kista, Sweden, March 5, 2012 – Proximion Fiber Systems AB, a world-class provider of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based dispersion compensation modules (DCMs), today announced the launch of the DCM-CBX, the latest addition to its continuous band dispersion compensation product line. The DCM-CBX is a high-end passive dispersion compensator with extraordinary optical performance throughout the entire C-band. It is targeted for use in direct detection-based 40G and 100G optical transport networks.

By offering reductions of up to 70% for key optical parameters of Phase Ripple (PR) and Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD), the DCM-CBX proves well suited to address the tighter requirements posed by higher bit rate systems as well as more challenging ultra long haul 10G links. The greatly improved optical performance of the DCM-CBX combined with the inherent low loss, negligible latency and lack of non-linearities associated with FBG based compensation, substantially improves transmission properties at high bit rates. System vendors therefore gain a much needed alternative to Dispersion Compensating Fiber (DCF) based compensation.

“By leveraging our unique knowledge in long FBG manufacturing technology we have now reached the point where we can offer a product with this same high standard of optical performance at a reasonable price,” says Fredrik Sjöström, Product Line Manager at Proximion. “With the DCM-CBX we are able to offer group delay characteristics sufficient for today’s 40G and 100G direct detection OTN, while maintaining low insertion loss and lack of non-linearities at high launch powers—all being key properties allowing amplification and dispersion optimized networks.”

“By introducing a cost effective dispersion compensator with virtually no negative impact on optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), I really believe that the DCM-CBX will become an important alternative to the more costly alternatives, especially in a more challenging transmission environment,” notes Stefan Ekman, CEO of Proximion.

Proximion will showcase the DCM-CBX at this year’s OFC/NFOEC conference in San Diego, March 6-8, in booth 1039.
