Latest PCIe Carriers from Technobox a New Turn for Adapting Conduction-cooled and Standard PMCs

We recently released a unique set of PCI Express carriers that offers a new twist on adapting conduction-cooled PMC (ccPMC) and standard PMCs to a PCI Express site on a PC or similar host.

Of particular note is the new Technobox 6768, a conduction-cooled PCIe adapter that permits the insertion of a single ccPMC into a PCI Express slot (4X). The adapter orients the ccPMC in a reverse manner such that the rear I/O from PN4 appears at the 68-pin SCSI-style connector installed on the adapter’s bracket. The differential pairing between PN4 and adapter interface follows a standard scheme. A similar adapter — P/N 6773 — offers a VITA 46 differential interface.

A distinctive feature of the 6768/6733 is the substantial copper heat sink and powerful, ducted blower fan. An on-board fan controller measures the temperature of the heat sink and adjusts the fan speed. The adapter features a status monitor program that provides temperature readings and a way to set fan parameters. Using a special cable (P/N 6351), any dumb terminal can be attached to the adapter via its on-board RS-232 serial port.

In addition to the 6768 and 6773, Technobox offers a pair of “flipped” PCIe adapters for standard PMCs, too. Both flip the PMC rear I/O outward to the chassis slots via the carrier’s bracket interface. Unlike the conduction-cooled carriers, the Technobox 6777 and 6778 lack the hefty heat sink. Instead the design employs a metal plate to which the same blower fan is paired for cooling. Like the ccPMC adapters, however, the 6777 and 6778 are distinguished by the differential routing – standard for P/N 6777 and VITA 46 for P/N 6778.
