Huntsville, Ala. – May 16, 2006 – GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced a new multiprocessor solution designed to meet the most demanding needs of signal and image processing applications. The NEXUS™ Quattro is a quad-processor 6U VME board based on Freescale’s MPC7447A and MPC7448 processors containing PowerPC® cores. This new product is the latest member of the NEXUS family of multiprocessing solutions to be offered by GE Fanuc Embedded Systems.

Available in versions for both rugged and benign environments, the NEXUS Quattro delivers performance and computing density typically required by radar, sonar, signals intelligence and image processing applications deployed in harsh operational environments.

The new NEXUS Quattro platform features a flexible asymmetric multiprocessing architecture that allows the four processors to operate as independent computing nodes. It can operate as a single multiprocessor or in multiple board combinations to provide an integrated, high-performance computing solution that addresses complex array processing needs in customers’ systems.

“The NEXUS Quattro is a major addition to our NEXUS product line that builds on the high performance of the Freescale Semiconductor PowerPC line,” said Dr. R. Eugene Helms, business development director for Government Solutions at GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. “It offers customers the flexibility to deploy key high-density multiprocessing systems in a wide range of processing configurations and environments.”

“GE Fanuc’s NEXUS Quattro represents the leading edge of asymmetric multiprocessor board designs for the computationally-demanding signal and imaging processing market,” said Lynelle McKay, vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Digital Systems Division. “Freescale’s high-performance MPC7447A and MPC7448 processors deliver exceptional performance per watt and reliability for embedded defense, avionics and homeland security applications targeted by the NEXUS Quattro board.”

Key features of the NEXUS Quattro include:

• Four Freescale Semiconductor MPC7448 processors at up to 1.4 GHz, or, four MPC7447A processors at 1.1 GHz.

“The NEXUS Quattro is a powerful complement to our other NEXUS products, the NEXUS™ I and the NEXUS™ Forte multiprocessors,” said GE Fanuc’s Helms. “The spectrum of applications supported by the NEXUS Quattro is very broad. It is designed to effectively address even the most demanding embedded computing requirement in military, intelligence and homeland security applications.”
