Providing paper and electronic content capture and business automation solutions |
This October, Notable Solutions, Inc. (NSi), the Rockville, MD-based developer of distributed content capture and workflow solutions, announced that through one of its partners it has been awarded a $3.5 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD will utilize NSi’s AutoStore™ to support enterprise capture capabilities for its Healthcare Artifact and Image Management Solution (HAIMS) project.
A global strategic initiative by the Military Health System (MHS), HAIMS is designed to enhance medical care for active duty and retired military personnel and their dependents. The project calls for integrating medical images into Electronic Healthcare Records (EHRs) and with enterprise-wide sharing capability, healthcare providers will have access to data throughout the individual’s history of care from Theater, to sustaining base, to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
This purchase represents two years of AutoStore integration and testing by the Department of Defense. They have selected AutoStore as a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) platform to accelerate integration into their complex IT environment. Plans call for deploying AutoStore worldwide in support of initially 6,000 users with follow-on phases to support all 60,000 military healthcare personnel.
The DoD, looking for a solution compatible with existing investments, chose the AutoStore solution for its advanced scanning technologies and its capability to leverage the thousands of existing Multi-Function Peripherals (MFPs) already purchased and in use at military hospitals. AutoStore also adheres to the DoD’s existing and strict security policies that include the use of Common Access Cards (CACs) to provide audit trails of scanned documents and the identification of users as an added layer of security. In addition, the DoD also identified AutoStore’s ability to use the native user interface of the MFP and its adaptability in being able to create continual enhancements to the document classification components of HAIMS for future expansion.
“While this contract is a significant business win for NSi, it is also an opportunity for us to participate in a project that will bring considerable efficiencies to many thousands of healthcare providers and their patients.” said Richard Bosworth, Chief Sales Officer at Notable Solutions. “This project truly demonstrates the advantages AutoStore brings to the healthcare industry. AutoStore’s ability to support large, geographically dispersed deployments of mixed MFP fleets while also complying with the high level of security of these networks makes it a good fit for hospitals and other massive healthcare initiatives such as HAIMS.”
“The HAIMS project is indicative of Gartner research that shows a growing trend toward leveraging the capabilities of existing MFP infrastructures to securely and centrally manage information and connect to other business applications,” said Federico De Silva, Principal Research Analyst at Gartner. According to the research note Competitive Landscape: Software Solutions for Smart Multifunctional Products (SMFP), Worldwide, November 2010, “With the amount of information and content created and shared continuing to grow, organizations are seeking ways to manage their documents in an efficient manner.”
