Editor’s note: This update is based on recent
VSO meetings. Upcoming VSO meetings are in January and March 2013.
VSO ANSI accreditation
Accredited as an SDO by ANSI, the VITA Standards Organization (VSO) meets every two months to address embedded bus and board industry standards issues.
VSO study and working group activities
Standards within the VSO may be initiated by a study group and developed by a working group. A study group requires the sponsorship of one VSO member, and a working group requires sponsorship of at least three VITA members.
VITA 46.3, VPX: 4x Serial RapidIO Signal Mapping
Objective: This specification supplements the VITA 46 base specification for VPX with the definition for the mapping of 4x Serial RapidIO signals to a VITA 46 connector.
Status: VITA 46.3 received ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 46.3-2012.
VITA 46.4, VPX: PCI Express Signal Mapping
Objective: This specification supplements the VITA 46 base specification for VPX with the definition for mapping PCI Express signals to a VITA 46 connector.
Status: VITA 46.4 reached ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 46.4-2012.
VITA 46.7, VPX: 10 Gbit Ethernet Signal Mapping
Objective: This specification supplements the VITA 46 base specification for VPX with the definition for mapping 10 Gbit Ethernet signals to a VITA 46 connector.
Status: VITA 46.7 reached ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 46.7-2012.
VITA 57.2, FMC XML Tools (FPGA Mezzanine Card)
Objective: This standard defines an XML generator and checker tool to aid in FMC design.
Status: The FMC Marketing Alliance successfully completed FMC PlugFest 2012. The PlugFest was the first utilization of FMC Check, which consists of the VITA 57.2 metadata specification combined with cloud-based builder and checker tools. The 9 sponsors provided 23 unique FMC modules that were used to test a range of application scenarios on 13 different FPGA carrier cards.
VITA 62, VPX: Power Supply
Objective: To provide guidelines for building a power supply module that can be used to power VPX chassis. The module will fit within the standard envelope defined for VPX modules using the VITA 48 specifications.
Status: VITA 62 received ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 62.0-2012.
VITA 67.0, VPX: Coaxial Interconnect
Objective: This specification establishes a structure for implementing blind-mate analog coaxial interconnects with VPX backplanes and plug-in modules, and defines a specific family of interconnects and configurations within that structure.
Status: VITA 67.0 reached ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 67.0-2012.
VITA 67.1, VPX: Coaxial Interconnect, 3U, Four-position SMPM Configuration
Objective: This specification details the configuration and interconnect within the structure of VITA 67.0, enabling a 3U VITA 46 interface containing multiposition blind-mate analog connectors with up to four SMPM contacts.
Status: VITA 67.1 reached ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 67.1-2012.
VITA 67.2, VPX: Coaxial Interconnect, 6U, Eight-position SMPM Configuration
Objective: This specification details the configuration and interconnect within the structure of VITA 67.0, enabling a 6U VITA 46 interface containing multiposition blind-mate analog connectors with up to eight SMPM contacts.
Status: VITA 67.2 reached ANSI recognition under guidance of the VSO to become ANSI/VITA 67.2-2012.
VITA 51.0, Reliability Prediction
Objective: This document provides an electronics failure rate prediction standard and establishes a Community of Practice. It addresses the limitations of existing prediction practices with a series of subsidiary specifications that contain the “best practices” within industry for performing electronics failure rate predictions. The development of ANSI/VITA 51.0 and the subsidiary specifications is an effort to give the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) calculations consistency and repeatability.
Status: ANSI/VITA 51.0-2008 (R2012), recertified this summer.
