Apacer SAFD 25P, an industrial 2.5” SSD, was chosen for the Editor’s Choice Award by the professional American magazine – Military Embedded Systems in October 2012. In response to the award, Jeff Lin, the Value-added Business Unit Director of Apacer, mentioned that: “SAFD 25P is designed for the warship with arctic navigation purpose. In order to operate smoothly in the severe environment, the reinforced aluminum case is adopted to resist the system vibration and shock impact. The conformal coating is also applied to effectively achieve the damp proof, mould proof, corrosion prevention, parts loosening prevention and insulation functions. It can operate normally within a temperature operating of -40°C to 85°C and delivers sequential read/write speed up to 265/230 MB/sec, with 12K IOPs. In particular, it can be started up successfully even in an arctic environment (-40°C), enabling various military devices to perform tasks accurately in any kinds of environment.”

Except for its strong hardware capable of enduring various severe environments, the main reason for SAFD 25P to be selected as the Editor’s Choice lies in Apacer’s exclusive Core Security Technology special security directives including CoreProtector, CoreEraser and CoreDestroyer. Users are able to enable it through the setting of the software command and hardware. CoreProtector is used to protect the data, and its unique Security Key is possessed by the manager only. It can limit the unauthorized user’s access, so as to effectively protect the data against tampering and accidental change. CoreEraser is an efficient tool for disk erasing. The data erasing standard in MIL Erase has been generally adopted by the military and industry, including DoD 5220.22-M, NSA Manual 130-2, USA AF AFFSSI 5020, USA Army 380-19, USA Navy NAVSO P-5239-26IREC (IRIG) 106 and NSA 9-12. CoreDestroyer technology, aimed at thoroughly destroying the disk and beyond recovery, includes firmware and System Block, which provide well-designed data protection measures for customers. The SSD will be destroyed immediately when the system casing is opened maliciously, therefore protecting the data from being disclosed to the competitors, improving the reliability of the storage devices and strengthening the security of the whole system.

As the storage devices for military purpose, it should fully comply with the manufacturing processes of the client. Thus, Apacer has conducted ORT (on-going reliability testing) during the mass production to ensure the reliability and service life of the products. In addition, Apacer offers the unique Fixed BOM upon customers’ recognition and verification. It prevents discretionary changes of firmware and component. This reduces the risk of out-of-stock and compatibility issues by providing customers with stable supply and high reliability. Jeff Lin, the Value-added Business Unit Director of Apacer, further stated: “Apacer has been engaged in the Industrial SSD business for over ten years. We have excellent customization ability, stringent manufacturing quality and real-time technical support. We are not only the best partner of enterprises, ranked among the top ten PC SSD suppliers in the world, but also one of the few SSD manufacturers in Taiwan with both software and hardware abilities. Complying with MIL-STD-810F, the toughest certification standard in the American military regulations, SAFD 25P is chosen for the Editor’s Choice Award by Military Embedded Systems, making it the optimal storage devices for the military and aviation industries.”
