Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced the expansion of its Displaced Worker Program to now include online training courses. Developed in 2002, the Displaced Worker Program offers free training on a “space available” basis to displaced electronics designers and engineers. With the inclusion of online courses, this beneficial program can now include engineers who are not physically located near a Mentor Graphics training center.

“It’s unfortunate that so many people in the electronic design community are looking for work,” stated Tom Floodeen, vice president and general manager of Customer Support at Mentor Graphics. “Offering complimentary access to our online community and training offerings is something we can do to give back to those who use EDA tools. Our online, instructor-led training is particularly helpful for displaced workers because the travel barriers are removed.”

Actual classroom instruction takes place at Mentor Graphics training centers at locations such as Austin, Boston (Marlborough), Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, Denver (Longmont), Portland and San Jose. A primary benefit of online courses is to enable students to interact with an expert instructor from remote locations. Courses are open to pre-qualified engineers and designers who meet certain requirements, including at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant experience.

Another feature of the program is the option to include a displaced worker’s name on a list made available to employers with open positions, providing another source of exposure for the job seeker. Plus, being part of the Mentor communities is also a great way to learn, share and network with other designers and engineers. With the addition of more online courses beginning in March, Mentor is now offering resources to a larger base of the electronics engineering design community. More information about the program, including enrollment forms, can be found at www.mentor.com/training_and_services/training/d[…]
