GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Announces New VMEbus Single Board Computers

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, Inc.GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, Inc.—October 10, 20070

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA October 11, 2007 Once again demonstrating the companys ability to develop and deliver solutions that take advantage of key technologies in order to enable optimum platform performance, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced the VP11 and VR11 6U VMEbus single board computers, each featuring a choice of Intel® dual core processors – including the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor. Designed to meet the requirements of markets including automation, simulation/training, telecommunications, test and measurement and others, while also providing an upgrade path for existing VP9 and VR9 customers, the VR11 is a single slot solution that can optionally be ruggedized (including conduction cooling), while the VP11 is a dual slot solution, delivering additional capability.

“These new boards combine Intels leading edge dual core processing power with the proven benefits of the VMEbus architecture to deliver highly functional and outstandingly flexible solutions to a broad spectrum of customers,” said Wayne McGee, Global Director of SBC Product Line Management at GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. “Providing the option of single or dual slot allows our customers to make the price/performance trade-offs that are right for their application, while the ruggedization option allows for deployment in even the harshest environments.”

Each board can support up to 4 Gigabytes of DDR2 SDRAM soldered memory for optimum performance and reliability. The dual slot VP11 allows for two PMC sites as well as an on-board hard disk or CompactFlash subsystem, and delivers maximum front panel functionality. The single slot VR11 can support either two PMC sites or single PMC site together with a hard disk subsystem. A PCIExpress-based XMC option is also available. Both boards provide multimedia functionality with the provision of an AT 2D and 3D graphics engine, capable of supporting resolutions up to SXGA, together with audio support. Windows®, Linux, VxWorks and Integrity are optionally available.
