OpenTSP NG: vital building blocks for low power, cost-effective, high density, high volume IP multimedia applications

VSN Systemen bvVSN Systemen bv—August 5, 20100

The OpenTSP NG portfolio includes cost-effective Hardware Building Blocks, Software Building Blocks, and Professional Services based on which high-density, high-volume IP multimedia applications can be built for voice and video usage. Intended for use in the carrier-grade telecom and datacom network markets, addressing the needs of technical application who are facing many challenges: increasing (IP) complexity, required high flexibility, needed high quality, a high development effort, a short time to market and relative small volume of products.

All OpenTSP NG products are in use today and have been field proven by one of the worlds largest VoIp providers. They can handle high levels of traffic, and are stable, reliable, open, flexible and scalable to large systems that can deal with100’s of thousands of concurrent calls.

The core of VSN’s OpenTSP NG portfolio consists of the Cavium Octeon-based Network Processing Unit which provides considerable network processing power with MIPS64 multi-core, hardware accelerated packet processing, cryptography, TCP and QoS.

Combining the Octeon Network Processing Unit with OpenTSP NG Daughterboards (like Octasic Vocallo Media Processing Board or custom built), provides flexibility for specific needs, whilst higher level libraries (like Voice/Video Transcoding) and OpenTSP NG professional services enable easier, faster development thus shortening the developers time-to-market.

“Communication service providers are transforming or have transformed to an IP world, and need to be flexible and cost effective in their service offerings.”, according to Ruud Peeters, VSN. “By using IP based OpenTSP NG building blocks, developers can focus on application development and not on tedious hardware development. Even more, when using appropriate OpenTSP NG software building blocks, developers can build stable, fast and more functionally rich solutions by using the experience and knowledge VSN has gained over the past decades in large scale, high volume service provider environments.”

“Our portfolio”, Peeters continues, ”offers a high density platform of up to two thousand concurrent calls in a single 1U box, providing high performance hardware accelerated network and media (voice & video) processing and at the same time very low power consumption of less than 100W. We expect to release new hard- and software, either our own or in cooperation with partners, to further complete our OpenTSP NG technical building block portfolio.”
